How to Rent a Yacht in Dubai: Step by Step

Count your guests, pick the hours, book and bring an ID for everyone. The whole process of renting a yacht in Dubai, with prices, rules and first-timer mistakes.

To rent a yacht in Dubai, you pick a boat that is licensed for your group size, book it for at least two or three hours, and bring an original ID for every guest. The captain and crew come with the boat, so nobody needs a licence. A trip for 10–20 people on a 50–60 ft yacht usually costs AED 1,600–2,850, and on a weekday you can often book the same week. Here is the whole process, step by step, with the rules that catch first-timers out.

Step 1: Count your guests — exactly

Group size decides everything else. Every yacht has a licensed capacity, and it includes children. Marina staff and the coast guard can check, and the crew can't take one person more than the number on the yacht page. So count everyone, then look at boats a little above that number, not below.

Roughly what each size of yacht holds, from the 141 boats on Aceplace:

  • Under 40 ft — 8 to 10 guests. Couples, families, small groups of friends.
  • 40–60 ft — 10 to 20 guests. The most common size and the most choice.
  • 60–80 ft — 20 to 30 guests. Birthdays and bigger parties.
  • 80 ft and over — 30 to 100 guests. Corporate events, weddings, superyachts.

Step 2: Decide how long you want to be out

Yachts are rented by the hour, with a minimum: three hours on most boats, two on about a quarter, four on the largest yachts. The time you book decides how far you go:

  • 1–2 hours — Dubai Marina, JBR and Ain Dubai, maybe out to the Palm and Atlantis.
  • 3 hours — the classic loop: the Marina, the Palm, Atlantis and on to the Burj Al Arab, with a stop for a swim if the captain allows.
  • 4 hours or more — the same at an easy pace, with time for a long swim, a barbecue or a sunset at anchor.

Our guide to Dubai yacht routes has the details. Your captain plans the route with you on the day and may change it for wind and sea.

Step 3: Choose when to go

The cooler months, roughly October to April, are the most comfortable on deck. In summer the yachts still sail; you just spend more time swimming and in the air-conditioned cabin, and an evening trip is the smart choice.

Time of day matters more than people expect. The sea is often calmest in the morning — good for swimming and for anyone who gets seasick. Late afternoon is the most popular slot: start about an hour and a half before sunset (between around 5:30 pm in winter and 7:15 pm in summer) to get daylight, the sunset and the lit-up skyline on the way back. Weekend sunset slots go first, so book those early.

Step 4: Set a budget and compare boats

The price is per hour for the whole yacht, set by the owner. On Aceplace it starts at AED 350 an hour; a typical 50–60 ft yacht for up to 20 guests is AED 800–950 an hour; superyachts run into the tens of thousands. Our yacht rental prices guide breaks it down by size, and renting on a budget lists the cheapest boats.

When you compare, look past the photos at the details on the yacht page:

  • Capacity and minimum hours — the two numbers that decide the real cost.
  • Where you board. Most boats leave from Dubai Harbour, next to JBR; others from Dubai Marina, Dubai Marina Yacht Club, Dubai Islands and a few other marinas.
  • What's on board. Water and soft drinks are on almost every boat. BBQ grills (on 60 yachts), bars (46) and jacuzzis (23) are not — if you want one, filter for it.
  • Cancellation policy. Shown on every yacht page before you pay.

Step 5: Book and pay

On Aceplace you book on the website or in the iOS app and pay online by card, securely through Stripe. There are two kinds of yachts:

  • Instant booking — 78 yachts. Your date is confirmed straight away.
  • On request — the owner confirms your date after you book. If they can't, the booking is declined and you get your money back.

Going with friends? Turn on bill splitting: you pay your share, and everyone else pays theirs by link.

Once the booking is confirmed you get the marina location, berth and boarding details. If you want catering, decorations, a photographer or a transfer to the marina, tell us — we send options and prices and set everything up before you arrive. How it works shows the whole flow.

Step 6: On the day

  • ID for everyone. An original passport for visitors, an Emirates ID for residents, children included. A guest without ID may not be allowed on board. We may ask for names in advance for the passenger list.
  • Arrive 15–30 minutes early. Parking, the marina gate and boarding take time, and your hours start as booked.
  • Shoes off. On most yachts guests go barefoot. Flip-flops are the easy choice; leave heels at home.
  • Bring swimwear, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and a light layer for the evening breeze.
  • Swimming is in daylight only, when the captain allows it. Life jackets are always on board — mention children when you book so the crew has small sizes ready.
  • Alcohol, food and music — the rules differ from yacht to yacht. Ask us before the trip.

Mistakes first-timers make

  • Booking for the guest list you hope for. Two extra friends on the day can't come aboard if the boat is full. Leave a margin.
  • Too short a trip. Two hours feels long when you book and short on the water, especially with boarding and photos. If you want the Burj Al Arab, book three.
  • Forgetting one ID. It can hold up the whole group.
  • Assuming everything is included. The yacht, crew and soft drinks are; food, decorations and transfers are extras. Check the yacht page and ask.
  • Leaving it to the last minute in high season. The well-priced boats for Friday and Saturday sunsets go first.

If plans change

Most yachts (129 of 141) follow the same scale: free cancellation more than 72 hours before the trip, 30% of the price at 72–48 hours, 50% at 48–24 hours, and the full price in the last 24 hours. On any yacht, you can cancel for free within 24 hours of booking if the trip is at least 72 hours away. If the coast guard closes the water or the weather makes the trip unsafe, contact us and we'll help you find a new date.

Questions people ask

Do I need a boating licence to rent a yacht in Dubai?

No. Every yacht on Aceplace sails with a licensed captain and crew. Aceplace doesn't offer self-drive boats — more on that in our self-drive guide.

How far ahead should I book?

A week or more for a weekend sunset or a holiday; on weekdays, often the same week. Instant-booking yachts confirm on the spot.

Can I rent a yacht for just one hour?

A handful of boats allow it, but most have a two- or three-hour minimum. One hour covers the Marina and JBR, not much more.

Can children come?

Yes. They count towards the yacht's capacity and need an ID too. Tell us in advance so the crew has child-sized life jackets ready.
